వాషింగ్టన్, జూన్ 20: ఉక్రెయిన్‌కు అమెరికా పంపే ఆయుధాలపై పునఃపరిశీలన చేపడుతున్న పెంటగాన్, కొంతమేరకు ఆయుధాల పంపిణీని నిలిపివేసింది. ఇది అమెరికా జాతీయ రక్షణ ప్రయోజనాలకు వ్యతిరేకం కాదని పెంటగాన్ అధికార ప్రతినిధి తెలిపారు. “ప్రపంచంలోని అందరికీ ఆయుధాలు ఇవ్వలేం” అంటూ, ఆయుధ నిల్వలపై ఆందోళనల నేపథ్యంలో ఈ నిర్ణయం తీసుకున్నట్లు తెలుస్తోంది.
ఉక్రెయిన్‌కు పంపాల్సిన కొన్ని ఆయుధాలను తాత్కాలికంగా నిలిపివేయడంపై పెంటగాన్ అధికార ప్రతినిధి షాన్ పార్నెల్ స్పష్టతనిచ్చారు. ‘‘మేము ఎప్పుడూ మా మునిషన్స్ (కౌలివస్తువులు) మరియు వాటి పంపిణీపై పర్యవేక్షణ చేస్తూనే ఉంటాం. అందరికీ ఆయుధాలు ఇవ్వలేం,’’ అని ఆయన అన్నారు.
Politico నివేదిక ప్రకారం, అమెరికా వద్ద ఉన్న ఆర్టిల్లరీ (తక్కువదూర దాడి గణాలు), వాయు రక్షణ క్షిపణులు (air defence missiles), ప్రెసిషన్ గైడెడ్ ఆయుధాలు (precision-guided weapons) వంటి కీలక ఆయుధాల నిల్వలు తగ్గిపోతున్నాయని నిర్ధారణకు వచ్చిన తర్వాత పెంటగాన్ ఈ నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంది.
ఈ నిర్ణయం వెనుక ఉన్న ప్రధాన ఉద్దేశ్యం, అమెరికా జాతీయ భద్రత కోసం అవసరమైన ఆయుధ నిల్వలను సురక్షితంగా (securely) ఉంచడమేనని అంటున్నారు. పెంటగాన్ పాలసీ చీఫ్ ఎల్బ్రిడ్జ్ కొల్బీ ఈ పునఃసమీక్ష ప్రక్రియను ప్రారంభించారు.

“We can’t give weapons to everybody”: Pentagon pauses Ukraine arms aid
The Pentagon has temporarily paused certain arms shipments to Ukraine amid an internal review of US military aid and its alignment with national defense priorities. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell emphasized that the pause reflects logistics and security assessments and not any weakening of US commitment to global security.
Speaking to reporters, Parnell said, “We are constantly evaluating our munitions and how and where we’re sending them. We can’t give weapons to everyone around the world.” While he declined to name the exact weapons paused, internal discussions cited rising concerns about depleting key reserves.
According to a Politico report, the Pentagon decision stems from an inventory review that revealed shrinking stockpiles of artillery, air defense missiles, and precision-guided munitions. The move was initiated by policy chief Elbridge Colby and is seen as an attempt to secure critical supplies for US defense.
Russia responded quickly, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claiming the US arms pause showed it was running low on stock. He added that reduced weapons flow to Ukraine meant Russia was getting closer to concluding its “special military operation.”
The decision marks a shift in Washington’s support strategy and reflects growing concerns about resource allocation amid global tensions.
