The highly controversial Tirumala Laddu Adulteration Case has reached a decisive stage as the Nellore ACB Court commenced legal proceedings. Taking cognizance of the chargesheets filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), the court has cleared the way for the trial of 36 accused individuals. The SIT, which was constituted following a directive from the Supreme Court, had previously submitted two detailed chargesheets outlining the conspiracy behind the supply of adulterated ghee for the sacred Tirumala Laddu.
A total of 36 suspects, including 15 in the first chargesheet and 21 in the second, are set to face trial. The court spent nearly nine months meticulously studying the evidence and allegations due to the extreme sensitivity of the case involving the sentiments of millions of devotees. The judiciary is now expected to summon the accused for questioning in the coming days.
A Deep-Rooted Nexus Exposed According to the SIT’s findings in the Tirumala Laddu Adulteration Case, a nexus existed between certain private dairies, contractors, and TTD employees. It is alleged that these individuals conspired to supply substandard ghee by obtaining fraudulent quality certificates in exchange for monetary gains. The investigation highlights how established protocols were bypassed to facilitate the entry of adulterated ingredients into the TTD kitchen.
Simultaneously, the state-appointed One-Man Commission has concluded its parallel inquiry. Having visited Tirumala multiple times to inspect procurement processes and tender irregularities, the commission is scheduled to submit its report to the government on the 30th of this month. With the ACB court trial beginning and the commission’s report imminent, the focus has shifted back to the accountability of those involved in this massive scandal that shook the spiritual world.
