నైతికత కంటే ఆదాయమే ముఖ్యమా?: ఈ సందర్భంగా జమ్మూ కశ్మీర్ బీజేపీ ప్రతినిధి అల్తాఫ్ ఠాకూర్ అధికార నేషనల్ కాన్ఫరెన్స్ ప్రభుత్వంపై తీవ్రస్థాయిలో విరుచుకుపడ్డారు. కశ్మీర్ లోయ అనేది సాధువులు, ఆధ్యాత్మికతతో కూడిన పవిత్ర భూమి అని, ఇక్కడ మద్యం విక్రయాలను తాము అనుమతించబోమని స్పష్టం చేశారు. కేవలం ఆదాయం కోసమే ప్రభుత్వం యువతను మత్తుకు బానిస చేయాలని చూస్తోందని, నైతికతను విస్మరిస్తోందని ఆరోపించారు. ఒకవేళ ఒమర్ అబ్దుల్లా ప్రభుత్వం తమ డిమాండ్పై స్పందించకపోతే, తామే స్వయంగా కశ్మీర్లోని వైన్ షాపులకు తాళాలు వేస్తామని (లాక్డౌన్) బీజేపీ తరఫున హెచ్చరిక జారీ చేశారు.
ప్రభుత్వం వివరణ – పర్యాటక రంగం వాదన: ఈ వివాదంపై ముఖ్యమంత్రి ఒమర్ అబ్దుల్లా ఇదివరకే స్పందిస్తూ.. ప్రభుత్వం కొత్తగా ఎలాంటి మద్యం దుకాణాలను తెరవడం లేదని, మతపరమైన నమ్మకాల ప్రకారం మద్యం సేవించే హక్కు ఉన్న వ్యక్తుల కోసమే పాత విధానాన్ని కొనసాగిస్తున్నామని సమర్థించుకున్నారు. యువత తప్పుదోవ పట్టకుండా విద్యాసంస్థలు, ప్రార్థనా మందిరాలకు దూరంగా వీటిని ఉంచినట్లు తెలిపారు. దీనిపై బీజేపీ కో-మీడియా ఇన్ఛార్జ్ సాజిద్ యూసుఫ్ షా కౌంటర్ ఇస్తూ, కశ్మీర్కు పర్యాటకులు ఇక్కడి ప్రకృతి అందాలు, సంస్కృతి, ఆతిథ్యం కోసం వస్తారే తప్ప మద్యం కోసం కాదని, ప్రజాభిప్రాయాన్ని గౌరవించి వైన్ షాపులను వెంటనే మూసివేయాలని డిమాండ్ చేశారు.

Srinagar: The political atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir escalated sharply on Friday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a major offensive against the ruling National Conference (NC) government. According to BJP Protest Liquor Ban Kashmir Valley 2026 reports, the BJP’s Kashmir unit staged a massive protest march in Srinagar, demanding an immediate and absolute ban on the sale and purchase of alcohol across the entire Kashmir division. Carrying placards and raising anti-government slogans, protesters assembled at Ram Munshibagh in the Sonwar area and attempted to march towards Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s official residence at Gupkar Road, before being intercepted and detained by the police.
Morality Over Revenue – BJP’s Ultimatum: Framing the agitation as a battle to protect the cultural and spiritual ethos of the region, J&K BJP Spokesperson Altaf Thakur issued a stern warning to the administration. He accused the Omar Abdullah government of prioritizing excise revenue over the well-being of the local youth, alleging that the NC wants to submerge the Valley in alcohol. “This is the land of sages, and we will not allow liquor stores to operate here. If the government fails to take action, the BJP will take matters into its own hands and physically lock down these outlets,” Thakur warned during the demonstration.
The Policy Stand and Opposition: The protests erupted days after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah defended the Union Territory’s existing liquor policy, clarifying that his administration is not expanding alcohol access or opening new stores. He emphasized that the existing licensed shops are meant to accommodate individuals whose religious tenets permit consumption, adding that safeguards are in place to keep them away from residential and school zones. However, the BJP dismissed the stance, with co-media in-charge Sajid Yousuf Shah stating that domestic and international tourists visit Kashmir for its scenic beauty and hospitality, not for alcohol, urging the government to respect public sentiments.
