ఇండియన్ మేనేజర్లు అమెరికన్లను ఉద్యోగానికి తీసుకోవడం లేదని, అందుకు వారు పెద్దగా ఇష్టపడరని టెక్సాస్ రిపబ్లికన్ నేత విర్జిల్ బీర్ష్వేల్ తీవ్రంగా విమర్శించారు. ఇండియాతో ఉద్యోగ ఒప్పందం, డొనాల్డ్ ట్రంప్ రాజకీయ వారసత్వానికి ముగింపు మొదలవుతుందని, హైటెక్ రంగాల్లో అమెరికన్ల సంఖ్య తక్కువ ఉండటానికి అమెరికా చేస్తున్న హెచ్–1బి వీసా కారణమని ఆయన ఆరోపించారు.
2026లో టెక్సాస్ సెనేట్ ఎన్నికల కోసం పోటీ చేస్తున్న విర్జిల్ బీర్ష్వేల్ స్థానికత అంశానికి మరింత ఆజ్యం పోస్తూ పబ్బం గడుపుకునే విధంగా భారతీయ టెక్కీలపై తీవ్ర వ్యాఖ్యలు చేశారు. ఇండియాతో ట్రంప్ ఉద్యోగ ఒప్పందం (job deal) చేసుకుంటే అది ఆయన రాజకీయ వారసత్వానికి (legacy) ముగింపు కావచ్చని హెచ్చరించారు. “ఇండియన్ మేనేజర్లు అమెరికన్లను ఉద్యోగానికి తీసుకోవడమే కాదు, వాళ్లతో కలసి పనిచేయకపోవడమూ సర్వసాధారణమైపోయింది” అని విమర్శించారు.
బీర్ష్వేల్, హెచ్-1బి వీసా పథకానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా తరచూ వ్యాఖ్యలు చేస్తూ వచ్చారు. “మొదటిగా అమెరికన్లను ఆదికారంగా (priority) తీసుకోవాలి. డొనాల్డ్ ట్రంప్‌కి చుట్టూ ఉన్న బిలియనీర్లు (billionaires) వేరే దిశగా నడుస్తున్నారు. అందుకే నాకు విజయావకాశం ఉంది,” అని అన్నారు.
ఇటీవల యునైటెడ్‌హెల్త్ సీఈఓ బ్రియాన్ థాంప్సన్ హత్య ప్రస్తావిస్తూ, “ఇది తప్పుడు మార్గం అయినా అమెరికన్లు నిరాశకు గురయ్యారు. మన వ్యాపార నాయకులు (business leaders) దీనిని అర్థం చేసుకుంటారు,” అని అన్నారు.
ఇక ట్రంప్ మాట్లాడుతూ, “ఇండియాతో ఓ మంచి ఒప్పందం జరుగబోతోంది. ఇప్పటివరకు వారు తమ మార్కెట్లను ఎవరికీ ఇవ్వలేదు. కానీ ఈసారి తక్కువ టారిఫ్‌ల(tariffs)తో పోటీకి అవకాశం వస్తుంది,” అని స్పష్టం చేశారు. ఏప్రిల్ 2న ట్రంప్ ఇండియన్ దిగుమతులపై 26 శాతం డ్యూటీ ప్రకటించారు కానీ చర్చల నేపథ్యంలో నిలిపివేశారు.

Virgil Bierschwale, a Republican leader contesting the 2026 Texas Senate election, has intensified his rhetoric against Indian professionals, fueling the nativism debate. He issued a stern warning that if President Donald Trump enters into a job deal with India, it could signify the end of his political legacy. Bierschwale strongly criticized what he described as a common practice: “Indian managers not only refuse to hire Americans, but they also find it difficult to work with them.”
Bierschwale has been a consistent opponent of the H-1B visa program, frequently speaking out against it. He emphasized the need to prioritize Americans, stating, “Americans must be given priority. Donald Trump’s surrounding billionaires are moving in a different direction. That’s why I have a very good chance of winning.”
In a controversial statement, he recently alluded to the assassination of UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson, saying, “Even though this is the wrong path, Americans are frustrated. Our business leaders will understand this.” This comment has drawn criticism for its implied justification of violence stemming from economic frustration.
Meanwhile, Trump, speaking on the potential trade deal, clarified, “A good deal is going to happen with India. Until now, they haven’t opened their markets to anyone. But this time, there will be an opportunity to compete with lower tariffs.” On April 2, Trump had announced a 26 percent duty on Indian imports but later suspended it as trade negotiations continued.
Bierschwale’s aggressive stance underscores a growing sentiment among some American politicians who believe that foreign worker programs are displacing American jobs, particularly in the tech sector. His campaign appears to be capitalizing on this discontent, aiming to resonate with voters who prioritize domestic employment opportunities.
