A massive tragedy struck Tamil Nadu as the Virudhunagar Fire Accident claimed the lives of 23 workers in a devastating firework factory explosion. The incident occurred at the ‘Vanaja’ fireworks unit in Kattanarpatti, where workers were reportedly mixing raw chemicals despite it being a Sunday. The friction during the chemical handling is suspected to be the cause of the sudden blast that razed three buildings to the ground.
The intensity of the explosion was so high that sounds were heard up to 10 kilometers away, causing panic in nearby villages. Rescue teams recovered 23 bodies by Sunday night, many of which were charred beyond recognition. Several injured workers have been shifted to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital, where some remain in critical condition.
Official Response and Ongoing Risks President Droupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi, and CM M.K. Stalin expressed their deepest condolences regarding the Virudhunagar Fire Accident. Authorities have launched a high-level probe to investigate any safety violations at the site.
