అసలు ఏం జరిగింది?
2016 ఏప్రిల్లో ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ విభజన హామీలను అమలు చేయాలని, ముఖ్యంగా విశాఖపట్నం కేంద్రంగా ప్రత్యేక రైల్వే జోన్ ఏర్పాటు చేయాలని డిమాండ్ చేస్తూ అమర్నాథ్ జీవీఎంసీ గాంధీ విగ్రహం వద్ద ఆమరణ నిరాహార దీక్ష చేపట్టారు. నాలుగు రోజుల పాటు సాగిన ఈ దీక్ష వల్ల ఆయన ఆరోగ్యం తీవ్రంగా క్షీణించింది. ఆ సమయంలో పోలీసులు బలవంతంగా ఆయన దీక్షను భగ్నం చేసి కింగ్ జార్జ్ ఆసుపత్రికి (KGH) తరలించారు. ఈ క్రమంలో, నిరాహార దీక్ష ద్వారా తన ప్రాణాలకు హాని తలపెట్టుకోవడానికి ప్రయత్నించారనే ఆరోపణలతో విశాఖ టూటౌన్ పోలీసులు ఆయనపై ‘ఆత్మహత్యాయత్నం’ (Attempt to Suicide) కింద కేసు నమోదు చేశారు.

Former Minister Gudivada Amarnath Sentenced to 6 Months Jail in Old Case
In a significant legal development, the Visakhapatnam Railway Court has delivered the Gudivada Amarnath Case Verdict, sentencing the former minister and YSRCP leader to six months of simple imprisonment. Along with the jail term, a fine of ₹5,000 has been imposed by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Varalakshmi. The case dates back to 2016, when Amarnath staged an indefinite hunger strike demanding a special railway zone for Visakhapatnam.
During the protest, his health condition deteriorated significantly, leading the police to forcibly shift him to King George Hospital. Consequently, the Two-Town police registered a case against him for an ‘attempt to suicide.’ After a prolonged trial, the court found the charges valid. Responding to the verdict, Gudivada Amarnath stated that the protest was for the welfare of the North Andhra people and that he would challenge the lower court’s decision in the High Court.
